This study looked at how tillers affect corn growth and yield in different environments. They found that tillers stabilize plant biomass and increase carbohydrate storage, which helps corn plants produce more grain. The presence of tillers did not reduce the efficiency of grain production, regardless of plant density. Overall, tillers in corn plants can enhance carbohydrate storage and reduce limitations on grain production, particularly in less water-restrictive conditions. More research is needed to understand how tillers impact corn plants in different environments.
