New 2D Surface Roughness Measurement Unlocks Secrets of Rock Properties
Surface roughness on rock surfaces affects how oil flows through them. Scientists studied 26 rock samples to compare 1D and 2D measurements of roughness. They found that 2D measurements give a more accurate picture of roughness than 1D measurements. By using laser scanning, they could better estimate pore sizes for predicting oil flow. They also looked at how different methods affect the results. The study shows that 2D measurements are more reliable for understanding rock surfaces and predicting oil movement.
