Lockdown emissions fail to improve air quality in Chinese megacities.
During the COVID-19 lockdown in northeast China, air quality in megacities like Shenyang and Harbin didn't improve much. The bad weather made it harder to clean the air, and changes in emissions didn't help either. While industry and transportation emissions went down, residential emissions went up, canceling out the improvements. In fact, residential emissions were the biggest contributor to the pollution. This shows that we need to focus on reducing residential emissions to make the air cleaner in this part of China.
