Biochar: The Key to Achieving Carbon Neutrality and Fighting Climate Change
Biochar has the potential to help achieve carbon neutrality by the mid-twenty-first century. It can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.0% globally, mainly by improving soil health and reducing methane and nitrous oxide emissions. Biochar can also be used in various ways, such as in ruminant feed to decrease methane emissions, as a green catalyst for biorefinery, and in infrastructure to lower carbon footprint. Additionally, biochar can be used in energy storage, carbon capture, and storage. Future research should focus on large-scale applications of biochar for climate change mitigation and assess its economic and social viability.
