Hardy lambs thrive on pasture without anthelmintics at reasonable stocking rates
Lambs were raised at different stocking rates on pasture without using anthelmintics. The lambs grazed for 372 minutes daily, consuming 714-1014g of herbage per day. They gained weight differently based on stocking rates, with SR1 lambs gaining the most. Gastrointestinal parasite counts were low in lambs on SR3, but all groups had Moniezia spp. eggs in their fecal samples. The study shows that local hardy lambs can be fattened on pasture at reasonable stocking rates without needing anthelmintics.
