Predicted floods in Lower Krishna Basin show alarming increase over next decades
The researchers used the Gumbel Distribution method to analyze flood frequency in the lower Krishna basin. They predicted annual peak discharges for the years 2007-2021 and calculated return periods for different time frames. The estimated flood discharge for the next 10 years is 1239523 Cusecs, and for the next 25 years, it is 1586634 Cusecs. The data shows a consistent increase in flood levels at the Prakasam barrage station, which can help in planning engineering projects like reservoirs and bridges, as well as creating flood hazard maps.
