The development of historiography in Indonesia has gone through different stages: traditional, colonial, and national historiography. Traditional historiography was myth-based and existed before the colonial period. Colonial historiography was influenced by westerners during the colonial rule. After Indonesia gained independence, it transitioned to national historiography. Each type of historiography has its own characteristics and reflects the historical background of Indonesia.
