The article discusses how languages can be maintained through code copying, where speakers borrow elements from other languages. This can strengthen languages and help them survive. Two types of copying, Take-Over and Carry-Over, can make languages more viable by sharing words and grammar patterns. Languages with high copying rates are more likely to survive than those that are purified. Efforts to purify languages can actually harm their chances of survival. High-copying languages are easier to learn and can help revitalize less-copying languages.
