Nighttime feast: Zooplankton hunt phytoplankton under moonlight in Sumatra waters
Plankton in the waters off the northern Peninsula of the Banyuasin Coast in South Sumatra play a crucial role in the ecosystem. Researchers studied how the amount of phytoplankton affects the behavior of zooplankton, which are like tiny predators hunting for prey. They found that the abundance of phytoplankton indirectly influences zooplankton behavior, with differences in time and environmental conditions also playing a role. The highest amounts of phytoplankton were seen at night, while zooplankton activity increased during the night as they searched for food, mainly phytoplankton.
