Calcium Carbonate Removal Alters Soil Texture, Changing Agricultural Practices Forever.
The experiment looked at how removing calcium carbonate from soil affects the size of soil particles and their texture in Sulaimani Governorate, Iraq. They found that taking out the calcium carbonate changed the distribution of particle sizes in the soil and altered the texture classification in most samples. The calcium carbonate was mostly found in the sand and silt sizes. The biggest change in particle size distribution after removing calcium carbonate was seen in the silt and sand fractions. Removing calcium carbonate before analyzing soil samples is recommended for accurate particle size and texture classification in calcareous soils.
