Ancient river evolution reveals hidden terraces shaping modern landscapes.
The study looked at how the landscape and rivers changed over time in the lower part of the Namhangang River. They found that the upper part of the river had erosion happening steadily over thousands of years, creating high terraces. In contrast, the lower part of the river had sediment building up during certain time periods when sea levels were lower. This caused the older terraces to be buried under the floodplain.
