The study looked at what Malaysian university students think about Portuguese-speaking countries and why they want to learn Portuguese. They found that students had many different ideas about Portugal, like football and food. However, their thoughts about other Portuguese-speaking countries were not as varied and sometimes wrong. The main reason students wanted to learn Portuguese was to learn more about these countries. They were also interested in learning other languages. The study suggests that students' ideas about the countries where a language is spoken can affect their decision to learn that language.
