Global aridity has been increasing from 1970 to 2018, with humid regions drying out more than arid areas. The Qinghai-Tibet Plateau has become wetter due to more rainfall. The main drivers of global drying are decreasing rainfall and increasing evaporation. About half of the world's land has been getting wetter, mostly because of more rain. If other factors are not considered, aridity could worsen, especially in humid regions.
