Nile Delta shoreline erosion threatens coastal cities and infrastructure.
Coastal areas like the Nile Delta are at risk of erosion due to climate change and rising sea levels. Using satellite data and GIS technology, researchers analyzed shoreline changes from 1974 to 2022 and predicted future erosion until 2033 and 2043. The study found that erosion is moving the shoreline inland, particularly affecting the Rosetta and Damietta sections. Erosion rates ranged from 8-60 meters per year, posing threats to communities, infrastructure, and the economy. The study suggests the need for a comprehensive coastal management strategy to protect these vulnerable areas.
