Revolutionizing Energy Storage: Deep Sea Air Compression for Sustainable Grids.
A new energy storage technology called Isothermal Deep Ocean Compressed Air Energy Storage (IDO-CAES) has been developed to store energy from wind and solar power for longer periods. This technology uses compressed air stored in the deep sea to provide weekly, monthly, and seasonal energy storage. IDO-CAES is estimated to cost between 1500 to 3000 USD per kilowatt for installation and 1 to 10 USD per kilowatt-hour for energy storage. It can be a cost-effective solution for areas where traditional energy storage methods like pumped hydro storage are not feasible, such as coastal regions, islands, and offshore wind farms.
