Converting Diesel Engines to Dual Fuel Reduces Emissions and Fuel Consumption
The researchers converted a diesel engine to run on a mix of diesel and natural gas to reduce diesel consumption. They tested the engine at different speeds using both fuels and found that emissions of some pollutants increased while others decreased with the dual fuel setup. The goal was to use more natural gas and less diesel, with 72% natural gas and 28% diesel used at idle. More research is needed to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
