Deficit irrigation boosts cucumber yields, slashes water use in greenhouse farming
The study investigated how providing less water to cucumber plants at different growth stages affects water efficiency and plant growth in a greenhouse setting in Nigeria. By adjusting the amount of water given to the plants, researchers found that the cucumbers were able to handle mild water stress without significantly reducing their yield or quality. The experiments showed that as the water levels decreased, the cucumbers became more efficient in using water, with water efficiency and productivity increasing as water amounts were reduced. This suggests that managing water resources effectively, especially during times of water scarcity, can lead to improved water use efficiency for growing crops like cucumbers.
