Nitrogen Limits Threaten Earth's Carbon Sink, Jeopardizing Climate Goals
Terrestrial carbon storage is limited by nitrogen availability, especially with increasing CO2 levels. Different models show variability in how they simulate nitrogen cycling, which affects carbon sequestration predictions. Models tend to overestimate certain nitrogen-related factors in tropical regions and underestimate them in temperate areas. More data on nitrogen processes is needed to improve model accuracy and better predict future carbon storage in a changing climate.
