New Study Reveals Soil Quality Crisis Threatening Food Security in China
Soil quality in Tieling County, China was evaluated using a minimum data set (MDS) to determine topsoil quality indicators. The MDS included factors like total potassium, clay content, zinc, organic matter, water content, cation exchange capacity, pH, and copper. The study found that these indicators effectively assessed topsoil quality in the area. Overall, soil quality was lower in the east and higher in the west, increasing from hilly to plain areas. This information can help improve soil quality and guide future soil management practices.
