Indian Commercial Banks Struggle with Rising Non-Performing Assets Crisis
Asset Quality Management is crucial for evaluating credit risk in Indian commercial banks. Troubled loans have increased significantly since 2013-14, with non-performing assets (NPAs) reaching 9.6% of total advances in 2016-17. Public Sector Banks have seen a major rise in NPAs, especially in non-priority sectors. The swing in NPAs in non-priority sectors rose to 72.4% in 2017 from 37.1% in 2008. This highlights the importance of effective control and monitoring of credit risk to manage Asset Quality efficiently.
