COVID-19 Lockdown Sees Surge in High-Risk Cardio Calls, Queens Most Affected
The study looked at how emergency dispatchers in New York City prioritized calls for heart and lung problems during the Covid-19 lockdown. They found that more high-priority calls were made in 2020 compared to 2019, especially for respiratory issues. Queens had the highest chance of getting a high-priority response. Calls with fever and cough symptoms were more likely to be prioritized. In May, calls were more likely to be urgent, while in June, they were less urgent. Overall, in 2020, more high-priority calls were made than in 2019.
