Customized energy feedback boosts household electricity savings in China
In China, a study tested how different ways of giving information can help people save electricity. They focused on customizing feedback to individuals. The study tested eight methods in Nanjing and found that personalized info had the biggest impact on reducing electricity use. Combining different types of info also worked well. People responded most to energy-saving tips tailored to them, comparing their usage with others, and personalized environmental education info. Providing info offline rather than online was more effective in encouraging people to save electricity. These results can help policymakers create better energy-saving programs.
