Net contributors to EU budget more likely to contest Council votes.
The article examines how different factors influence how countries vote in the Council of the European Union from 2010 to 2021. By analyzing over 30,000 votes on 1229 decisions, the researchers found that countries that contribute more to the EU budget are more likely to challenge a vote. They also discovered that countries further away ideologically from the winning coalition are more likely to contest a vote. However, they did not find a clear link between voting power and the likelihood of contestation.
