Organic farming unlikely to transform European agriculture by 2030
This analysis assesses if Europe can reach its goal of having 25% of farmland be organic by 2030. The researchers looked at data from 2012 to 2020 and found that just increasing organic farming areas may not make European agriculture more sustainable. Organic farming currently doesn't have a big impact on overall food production or consumption. If the target is reached, it may mainly involve already sustainable farms. This study raises questions about how much organic farming really helps make agriculture sustainable.
