Irrigating crops deeper boosts yields and water efficiency, revolutionizing agriculture.
The researchers studied how different amounts of water before planting and soil cover affect the growth and yield of chickpeas, linseed, and Indian mustard. They found that giving more water before planting increased the yield of all three crops. Indian mustard had the highest yield, followed by linseed and chickpeas. Indian mustard also used water more efficiently than the other crops. Soil cover did not make a difference in the results.
