No-till farming boosts profits and yields in U.S. Great Plains.
The study looked at different ways of tilling the soil for growing crops in the Great Plains. They compared conventional tillage, reduced tillage, no-tillage, and occasional tillage. They found that no-tillage had higher sorghum yields and profits compared to the other methods. Even if occasional tillage was needed in a long-term no-tillage system, it didn't significantly affect crop yields or profits in the first 5 years. So, overall, no-tillage seems to be the best option for growing wheat and sorghum in the Great Plains.
