Metal workshops in Yobe State pose medium cancer risks to residents.
The study looked at how metal workshops affect soil health and human health. Soil samples from five workshops in Potiskum town were tested for heavy metals. The highest hazard quotient was for chromium, while cobalt had the lowest. The overall hazard quotient trend was chromium > lead > manganese > copper > cadmium > nickel > zinc > cobalt. The workshops were found to have low non-carcinogenic health risks, but three of them posed medium cancer risks.
