Aging failures in power systems pose major reliability risks, study finds.
The article introduces a method to include aging failures in power system reliability assessment. It offers a way to calculate the likelihood of aging failures using two different models, making it easier to evaluate system reliability. By applying the method to a real power system, it was found that aging failures significantly impact system reliability, especially in older systems. Neglecting aging failures in evaluating an aged power system can lead to a serious underestimation of system risk and potentially misleading conclusions in system planning.
