Paper and plastic mulches are used in farming to help crops grow better and control weeds. A study compared how well paper and plastic mulches worked for growing tomatoes in 2018 and 2021. Both mulches reduced weeds and made it easier to control them compared to bare soil. The soil was cooler with mulch than without it in 2021. Plastic mulch gave higher tomato yields than paper mulch and bare soil. Paper mulch had similar weed control to plastic mulch and similar tomato yields to bare soil.
