Sperm DNA Fragmentation Linked to Infertility and Miscarriage, Even with Normal Semen
In the study, researchers looked at the role of sperm DNA fragmentation in cases of recurrent miscarriage and failed IVF, even when the man had normal semen analysis. They found that DNA fragmentation was linked to age, infertility duration, and semen quality. Surprisingly, some men with normal or slightly abnormal semen had high DNA fragmentation levels. Men with abnormal semen showed significantly higher DNA fragmentation. The study suggests that checking DNA fragmentation could be important for couples facing fertility issues, especially if the man is older, has been infertile for a long time, or has semen abnormalities.
