Uncontrolled urban sprawl in Zambia threatens sustainable development and rural areas.
Zambia's urban areas are growing fast, leading to unplanned development, especially on the outskirts. The study looks at how cities have expanded since independence, causing rural people to move to urban areas, resulting in rapid urban growth and sprawl. Most cities in Zambia have grown informally, taking over rural land. The study suggests using an integrated planning approach to tackle these issues. By analyzing past, present, and future trends in Kitwe, the largest city in the Copperbelt Province, the study aims to understand urban sprawl and develop sustainable urban policies in Zambia.
