Groundbreaking Pipe Jacking Technology Reduces Traffic Disruption in Urban Construction
Pipe jacking is a method used for building tunnels for utilities in China. A study focused on a project in Huanggang Mingzhu road, where a large tunnel with a 4m inner diameter and 4.8m outer diameter was constructed under a busy urban road. The project required high precision in construction due to heavy traffic above. The study discussed key technologies used, such as specialized equipment, minimizing space needed for launching, controlling slurry flow, reducing friction, and managing ground settlement. The results showed that the chosen machine worked well with the project's geology, required less force than expected, and caused minimal road surface deformation, not affecting traffic.
