Chickpea farmers in India can boost yields by optimizing sowing dates
Chickpeas are sensitive to temperature changes due to climate shifts. Researchers in North India studied how different planting times (October, November, December) affected chickpea growth and yield. They tested 10 chickpea genotypes over two seasons. Results showed that planting in November resulted in the best growth and yield. Delaying planting to December led to lower yields. Among the genotypes, H12-64 and H13-01 showed the best growth and yield, while H14-04 performed the worst. The study suggests that choosing the right planting time is crucial for maximizing chickpea crop success in semi-arid regions.
