Study finds COVID-19 virus viable on hands of hospitalized children
The study found that viable SARS-CoV-2 virus can be detected on the hands of hospitalized children with COVID-19. The researchers collected palm swabs from 70 children and found that 71.6% tested positive for the virus. The median viral RNA copy number was 2.8 × 103, with some samples showing concentrations exceeding 1.0 × 105 copies. This suggests that hand contamination may play a role in the indirect transmission of the virus, highlighting the importance of proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
