The researchers conducted field experiments to find the best way to grow pigeonpea and greengram together. They tested different levels of fertilizer on the crops. They found that planting pigeonpea with the full amount of fertilizer and greengram with either 1/3rd or 1/6th of the recommended fertilizer worked best for intercropping.
