Topsoil quality in Northeast China deteriorating, threatening food security.
Soil quality in Tieling County, China was studied using a minimum data set (MDS) to evaluate topsoil quality. The MDS included indicators like total potassium, clay, zinc, and soil organic matter. The study found that topsoil quality varied across the region, with lower quality in the east and higher quality in the west. The topsoil quality was divided into five levels, with most falling into grades II and III. This research can help guide efforts to improve soil quality in the area.
