Indiscriminate waste disposal in Thanjavur city causing health hazards and degradation.
The city of Thanjavur in Tamilnadu faces challenges in managing its municipal solid waste due to rapid population growth and outdated waste disposal methods. Currently, the city generates 105 tons of waste per day, which is disposed of unsustainably at a site 5km away. This improper waste management leads to health risks and environmental degradation. A recent study analyzed the composition of the solid waste and proposed solutions to handle it more effectively, turning waste into a valuable resource for the city.
