Extreme Weather Unlocks Climate Change Awareness in China, But Information Lags Behind
The aim was to see if extreme weather in China can make people more aware of climate change. They looked at how people searched for climate info when local extreme weather happened. Results showed some cities' residents became more concerned about climate change during extreme weather, but only a few cities had more online climate info. People need to connect extreme weather, like heavy rain and snow, with climate change. The study suggests using extreme weather events to talk more about climate change might help increase and satisfy public climate concerns.
