Revolutionary Wetland System Removes 99% of Pathogens from Septic Waste
A small-scale wetland system was tested to clean up septage, focusing on reducing harmful bacteria and worm eggs. The system used gravel, sand, and plants to treat the wastewater. Before treatment, the water had high levels of pollutants like BOD, COD, and TSS. After treatment, these levels dropped significantly, showing the system removed around 88% of BOD, 87% of COD, and 65% of TSS. The system was also very effective at removing harmful bacteria and worm eggs, with a removal efficiency of 99%. This means the water leaving the system had much lower levels of these contaminants, making it safer for the environment.
