Sheltered beaches in Pacific Islands most vulnerable to microplastic pollution.
Microplastic pollution is a growing threat to marine life worldwide. A study looked at microplastic levels on eight Pacific Island beaches in New Zealand and Hawaii. They found that all beaches had microplastics, with sheltered fine-grained sand beaches having the most. Nylon and polypropylene were the most common types of microplastics found. This suggests that sheltered beaches are more at risk of microplastic accumulation.
