Increasing face threat in communication can improve reliance calibration in human-agent teams.
The article explores how human operators can work better with intelligent agents in controlling multiple unmanned systems. By studying different ways of communicating with the agents, researchers found that increasing the level of threat can improve trust calibration at low transparency levels but may be harmful at high transparency levels. They also discovered that verbal communication is enough for low transparency, but graphical and iconographical methods are better for higher transparency levels.
