Environmental innovation can impact ecological footprint. A study on 26 EU countries from 1990 to 2010 found that at low levels, environmental innovation increases pressure on ecological footprint, but this effect decreases after a certain threshold. The study suggests that while environmental innovations alone may not reduce pressure on ecosystems, they can provide resources to help alleviate this pressure.
