Landowners Held Liable for Employees' Wildlife Crimes, Boosting Raptor Conservation
Vicarious liability is being used in Scottish law to hold landowners responsible for wildlife crimes committed by their employees, especially against birds of prey. Conservation groups support this approach. The idea is being considered for South African law to protect birds of prey better. South African law already has a form of vicarious liability for wildlife crimes, but it's not as strict as in Scotland. Directly holding landowners accountable for preventing wildlife crimes by their employees might be a better solution.
