Soil amendments boost crop yields and combat acidity in acidic soils.
Soil amendments like lime, biochar, and manure can help improve soil acidity and crop yields in acidic soils. A study looked at 832 observations from 142 papers to see how these amendments affect soil pH and crop productivity. They found that applying lime, biochar, by-products, manure, and straw can increase soil pH and crop yield. The biggest improvements were seen in sandy soils with low organic matter and cation exchange capacity. Lime, manure, and straw are recommended for different pH ranges. Overall, these amendments can boost soil quality and help crops grow better in acidic soils.
