Design Science Research focuses on creating and studying artifacts in specific situations. Many DSR articles lack clear identification of the artifact being studied. This paper introduces guidelines for design researchers in the IS domain to specify both the artifact and research objective. By applying these guidelines to various DSR papers, it was found that defining the artifact can improve the precision of research objectives.
