Stark Inequality Revealed: India's Districts Grapple with Uneven Human Development
A recent study looked at how well people are developing across different areas in India. They used a new way to measure this by looking at how districts are doing in important areas like health, education, and living standards. This method is different because it looks at the proportion of people doing well, not just averages. The study found that in one district in Bihar called Supaul, people face the most challenges in developing, but in Mahe, a district in Puducherry, people are progressing well. Surprisingly, in 78 districts, progress is uneven across health, education, and living standards, while in 231 districts, progress is below what's considered normal. The study suggests that it's important to keep checking how well people are developing at the district level to make better plans for helping everyone in India.
