Sustainability schemes perpetuate weak environmental practices, delaying urgent ecological transformation.
The article studied how organizations use sustainability practices to help the environment. They looked at 20 schemes that companies use. These schemes mostly support weak sustainability, not strong sustainability. This means they focus more on keeping things as they are rather than making big changes to help the environment. Some schemes were better than others, but overall, they were not very strong in supporting real ecological sustainability. The research suggests that if companies keep using these weak sustainability schemes, it will take longer to achieve strong environmental sustainability. The study shows that there is a need to shift towards stronger ways of helping the environment in business practices.
