The researchers studied radiation biases over the Southern Ocean using surface-based observations and model simulations. They found that the model overestimates shortwave radiation and underestimates longwave radiation, especially in summer. Cloud properties, like cloud fraction and phase, play a significant role in these biases. Both the model and satellite product need improvement to accurately simulate radiation in different sky conditions.
