Optimizing Nitrogen and Spacing Boosts Sweetcorn Yield and Profitability.
The researchers studied how different levels of nitrogen and spacing between plants affect the growth and yield of sweetcorn. They tested three nitrogen levels (80, 100, and 120 kg/ha) and three spacing configurations (75x10 cm2, 60x20 cm2, and 45x30 cm2) in a field experiment. The results showed that using 120 kg/ha of nitrogen with a spacing of 60x20 cm2 led to taller plants, more cobs per plant, higher green cob yield, and better financial returns compared to other treatments. This combination also resulted in a higher harvest index, indicating efficient resource use.
