New approach reveals widespread grassland degradation in northern China.
A new method was developed to classify grassland degradation in northern China using satellite data. Different types of grasslands have specific thresholds for degradation. By applying this method, it was found that 8.2% of the grasslands were degraded, with Inner Mongolia having the most severely degraded areas. This new approach provides a more accurate assessment of grassland degradation, which is important for protecting and restoring China's grasslands.
